Ask Long Island is run by MapToons, 31A E. Park Ave. Suite 232, Long Beach, NY 11561. Here is what we collect and why, in plain words.
If you just browse
- Google Analytics. We use it to see how many people visit and which pages they use. It sets cookies and Google receives standard visit details (pages viewed, device type, rough location from your IP address). You can block it with your browser’s privacy settings or Google’s opt-out add-on.
- Business stats. When you view a business or tap its phone number, website or directions, we add one to that business’s daily totals so owners can see how their listing does. We store only the totals, nothing about you.
- Searches. We keep the words typed into search and how many results came up, so we can make search better. Nothing about who searched.
- Your ZIP code or location, if you use “closest first,” stays in your browser. It is never sent to us.
If you sign in
- We keep your email address so you can sign in, and the towns you’ve confirmed you live in.
- We keep the businesses you recommend and the questions and answers you post. Recommendations are shown as counts; questions and answers are shown on the site without your email.
- We email you about your questions only if you leave that box checked, and every email has a link to stop them. We only send our newsletter if you opt in.
If you own a business
- We keep the details you give us for your listing, and your email to sign in.
- Payments for placements are handled by Square. We never see or store your card number.
- If a neighbor recommends a business that isn’t listed yet, we may look up its public contact email and send one invitation to claim the listing, with a link to opt out.
Who else handles data for us
Supabase (our database and sign-in), Netlify (web hosting), Brevo (email), Square (payments) and Google (analytics). We don’t sell your information or share it for advertising.
Questions or deletion
Email info@maptoons.com and we’ll answer, correct or delete your information.
